![]() |
c600 | Robin Of Sherwood (HTV) - 1984 - This is a replica of the silver arrow, made from steel and tin plated, seen here without the inscription (pending) It was used during Series 1&2. The arrow represents an ancient totem of pre christian England. Robin's father, Ailric, Thane of Loxley, was its guardian until it was stolen and Ailric murdered by the Sheriff of Nottingham. When Herne the Hunter calls the Hooded Man to the forest, Robin is charged with taking back the arrow and uses it to kill the Baron De Belleme. The arrow makes a further appearance when one of Belleme's witches bewitches Robin into stealing the arrow from Herne's cave and uses its power to reanimate the dead body of the Baron. | 'Thorpe' Falchion | ![]() |
c??? | The Thorpe Falchion, as one of a group of four East Anglian swords which share almost identical pierced quillions of Oakeshott Type 6. He noted that the relatively narrow blade of this weapon, the only falchion in the group, was unlike earlier English falchions (of which the Conyers Falchion is best known) and might have been influenced by saber-like Eastern European blade forms. Whatever the blade's stylistic origins, Oakeshott identified the Thorpe Falchion as an English weapon of the late 13th or early 14th century.
Alan E. West, Curator of Archaeology for Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service, has generously provided the following additional information about the Thorpe Falchion. The inch and pound conversions in parentheses.
Measurements and Specifications of Original: Weight: 904g (1.98 pounds) Overall length: 956mm (37.6") Blade length: 803mm Blade (31.6") Blade width: 48mm (1.8") at hilt Max blade width: 56mm (2.2") at 225mm (8.8") from tip Blade thickness: 2.5mm (.09") max thickness Guard width: 196mm (7.7") Guard thickness: 9mm (.35") at blade Grip length: 100mm (3.9") Pommel Width: 148mm (1.8") Pommel Length: 44mm (1.7") Point of Balance: 243mm (9.6") from end of pommel Blade notes: Single fuller of 1.5-2mm (.05"-.07") width runs 5mm (.19") parallel to back of blade on one side of the blade only. False edge appears to have same bevel as true edge. Mr. West noted that the grip is missing and the blade edge shows "numerous notches," while the back of the blade is in better condition. He said the pommel is brass with engraved images of animals and monsters. As for provenance, West said the falchion was dredged from the River Yare at Thorpe St. Andrew in 1833 and has been in the collection of the Norwich Museum (now Norwich Castle Museum) since that time. |

c??? | Katana - Bought from China off ebay | WWII Bayonet | ![]() |
c1880 | x2 Bayonets given to me by a neighbour, one mad by MOLE and one by Wilkinson. This is a double-edged bayonet originally manufactured to fit the Pattern 1888 Lee-Metford Infantry Rifle. These likely saw service in the Boer War and WWI.
They are very functional and of high-quality manufacture. The hilt incorporates an odd-shaped pommel with push-button/internal-spring latch, steel crossguard. The grips are of wood and are usually held in place by two brass rivets; an oil-hole is present behind the second rivet.
The blade is a double-edge type, unfullered, with a medial rib the runs from the ricasso to the blade tip; bright finish.
These are found in four basic variations: MkI, 1st Type - three brass rivets in grips; MkI, 2nd Type - two brass rivets and an oil/clearance hole at the rear of the second rivet; MkII - oil/clearance hole is no longer in the grip, but in the pommel; rear rivet is closer to the pommel; this was the first of the series intended solely for the Lee-Enfield Infantry Rifle. MkIII - metal hilt is "browned" and grips are held in place by two screw/nut sets. Various British proofs and manufacturer's marks are usually on the ricasso, both sides. This one was made by Robert Mole & Sons of Birmingham, England in the mid-1890s. It also bears the "X" blade proof-mark; the "broad arrow" over "WD" (War Department) Government acceptance mark; and a unique Birmingham inspectors number/mark with the "crown over B over 35." The scabbards are of blued steel-mounted brown leather (or black), with a single elongated oval "frog" stud. This bayonet was the predecessor to the British Pattern 1903 series. |
